PILATES Based Exercises
Pilates is a method of conditioning the body through resistance-controlled exercises. These exercises stretches and strengthen the muscles, open the joints, and release tension throughout the body. Pilates' focus is on abdominal control through breathing and on pelvic stabilization. By controlling the abdomen, pilates strengthens the muscles in the back, hips and stomach to support the spine.
Pilates can help those with the following conditions:
* Osteoarthritis
* Osteoporosis
* Low back pain
* Sciatica
* Fibromyalgia
* Cervical and/or shoulder blade pain.
Why Pilates is for YOU and it's here to stay?
Pilates has been used by professional dancers especially ballerinas for along time to improve their technique, increase their flexibility and in their rehabilitation after injuries. Currently Pilates is more popular with celebrities and athletes to get them fit and in shape and enhance their performances. These individuals know and testify that Pilates works.
For beginners, we recommend one on one Pilates sessions with a Certified Pilates Instructor because you should be able to receive personal and individualized feedback regarding the performance of the exercises. Pilates equipment such as the Reformer enable you to perform Pilates easily and perfectly without straining. Small group sessions are also recommended as long as you get that verbal and tactile feedback from your instructor. We do not recommend home videos and large group sessions for beginners simply because you will be unable to know if you are doing the exercises correctly.
Due to the nature of the exercises Pilates is only for the individual who truly wants to take control of their body and their pain. We incorporate Pilates for all our patients regardless of your diagnosis because we know that weakness at the core lead to weakness and pain in all other areas. To fully heal your condition, for long term relief, we address core strengthening through Pilates.
